We live in a world and a culture that are constantly changing, but Mount Gambier Presbyterian Church holds fast "the confession of our hope without wavering" (Hebrews 10:23). What do we mean by that? At least five things.
First, we are committed to the Bible, God's inerrant and infallible word, as the final authority for faith and life. We view the faithful preaching, teaching, hearing and applying of God’s Word as essential to growth in the Christian life.
Second, we are committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ - “that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ESV). We seek to keep the Gospel as the motivation and centre of our ministry and mission.
Third, we are committed to the Reformed faith, as set forth in the Westminster Confession of Faith. This is the best known of the seventeenth-century Protestant statements of faith. The doctrines of grace of our Confession are are valued by us because they are biblical and emphasize God’s sovereignty in salvation.
Fourth, we are committed to the Great Commission, and so we support a number of churches, missionaries and ministries within Australia and overseas. We are determined to be faithful in doing and supporting the work of evangelism and church planting locally, nationally and internationally.
Fifth, we are committed to the biblical teaching on the communion of saints. As a church we seek to foster real Christian fellowship, mutual concern, and love in the life of the congregation.
Programs and committees are no substitute for godly and loving relationships. We aim to be what God calls his people to be: a family - naturally and practically caring for one another and discipling one another in the good times and the bad. Our goal, then, is to be a loving community of believers in Christ, truly committed to one another.
